Nick Kyrgios is a captivating character, so it was no surprise the sixth episode of Break Point Season 1 heavily featured the inimitable Australian.

After recapping Part 1 of Netflix’s hit tennis documentary series, the show turned its attention to Wimbledon. For those unfamiliar with the grass-court major, Break Point detailed the royal aura around the tournament, juxtaposing the atmosphere with Kyrgios.

“I’m not going to conform to a bunch of old rules. I don’t care who you are or what you are because I know I’m not really accepted,” Kyrgios said. “I’m just hungry now. I’m channeling it. If I win Wimbledon, it’s like a middle finger to everyone.”

Early in Break Point, film crews followed Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis during their run to the Australian Open doubles title. Little did anyone know that the Australian would have an even bigger effort in him later in the year.

Andy Roddick, who continued in his role as an expert for the show, concisely explained what makes Kyrgios’ mentality different.

“I don’t know any other person who’s ever won a doubles tournament and went, ‘You know what, now I can win a singles Slam.’ That’s a leap for me,” Roddick said. “The pressure set is not the same.”

A behind-the-scenes clip showed Kyrgios arriving at Wimbledon and talking about dropping a diss track against tennis’ legends. He even jokingly asked a tournament official to be a background dancer.

On the court, Kyrgios built towards a potential third-round showdown with Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was portrayed as the opposite of Kyrgios.

After a tight first-round encounter, Kyrgios’ father, George arrived to bring a sense of home. George cooked for his son and team with Netflix cameras watching every move.

Kyrgios’ manager Daniel Horsfall said: “Wimbledon’s a different beat man, the pressure is nuts. You can feel the anxious energy. Nick likes the comfort of having home close by, which is dad’s cooking.”

[BREAK POINT]

It was at this point when Kyrgios revisited one of the most difficult moments of his life: 2019 Wimbledon. The episode dug into excruciating details of the struggles he went through mentally at the time.

The notoriously open Kyrgios showed a side fans have never seen before. It was revealed he spent time in a psych ward in London in 2019.

“He has not told a soul what they said in there,” Horsfall said. “That conversation they had in that room, no one knows.”

After the emotional segment, Ajla Tomljanovic shared the news of her breakup with Matteo Berrettini. With the Italian out of her picture, fans got a look at the Australian’s entertaining relationship with her father, Ratko Tomljanovic.

Ratko tried to save her daughter money and did not book her Wimbledon hotel room long enough. That move backfired as she moved through the draw.

“She cannot fire me, I’m her father,” Ratko said in a player fitness area, cracking a laugh. Fans also watched Tomljanovic receive a pep talk from all-time great Chris Evert during the episode.

The focus shifted back to the blockbuster between Kyrgios and Tsitsipas, which came to fruition.

“He has built that image of a bad boy,” Tsitsipas said. “It’s very controversial behavior. I think you either love him or you hate him and there’s nothing in the middle.”

It was clear there was tension in the air from the start of the match, which boiled over when Tsitsipas hit a ball into the crowd.

Who emerged victorious? You will have to watch Episode 7 to find out!
